This brief guide will teach you how to Install Windows Server 2022 on a virtual machine through the VMware WorkStation 17.
- Install VMware Workstation 17 or later on your system.
- Download the Windows Server 2022 ISO file from here.
Create VM for Windows Server:
First, we’ll create a new Virtual Machine on our system. Run VMware Workstation as an administrator. Click on the File tab at the upper left corner and select the New Virtual Machine option.
After that, choose the “Typical(recommended)” option and press the Next button on the “New Virtual Machine Wizard” window.
Then, select the “I will install the operating system later” option and press the Next button.
Now select a guest operating system you want to install on this Virtual machine & also the version of this OS from the drop-down menu, then press the Next button. As you can see, we’ve selected the Microsoft Windows OS with the “Windows Server 2022” as a version.
Now set the name & location for the newly created Virtual machine. As you can see, S2K22-1 is the name of our VM in the following image.
After that, specify the disk capacity; the recommended disk size is always greater than or equal to 60 GB for Windows server 2022. Click on the Next & Finish buttons.
Now click on the Edit Virtual Machine settings option on the main window of the VMware Workstation. Set the ram size for your virtual machine, which is recommended to be equal to or more than 2 GB.
Select ISO Image
Click on the CD/DVD tab under the Hardware section to select the ISO file, then choose the “Use ISO image file” radio button to select the Windows server 2022 ISO file from your system. Click the Browse button and navigate to the file location on your system.
Select Virtual Network
Now click on the Network Adapter tab, then choose the “Custom: Specific virtual network” radio button to select your virtual machine network. Once you’re done with these settings, click the OK button on the Virtual Machine Settings Wizard.
Install Windows Server 2022 On VMware:
First, Power on the Virtual Machine for the Windows Server. Press any key on your keyboard to start the Microsoft Server Operating System Setup.
Click on the Install button then select the Desktop Experience (Standard or Enterprise) version and click the Next button.
Select the Custom option when asked about the type of installation. Then select the dedicated disk drive for installation.
Now set the password for the administrator and click the Finish button.
Now click the virtual machine name tab and select the Send option or press the “Ctrl + Alt + Delete” keys to unlock the system.
Install VMware Tools
Click the virtual machine tab and select the Install VMware tools option.
Now select ‘This PC’ from the navigation pane and right-click on the Flash drive or removable CD containing VMware Tools and click the “Install or run program from your media”. Go through with the VMware Tools Setup wizard to complete the installation.
